Grace Hsia is a Chinese director / screenwriter base in Beijing, China. She majored in Art Design at Hunan University in 2011. In 2015, She worked as a documentary director at Enlight Picture, one of the top 3 film companies in China. After participating in several film crews and best box office-selling movies, her vision and passion grew from documentary to fiction film. She studied filmmaking at Beijing Film Academy and started to practice her fiction film journey. Besides, she is the founder of Grace Hsia Film Studio which focuses on documentary and narrative commercial productions. In 2022, Grace became the youngest art course speaker for the Chinese University of Hongkong, Shenzhen to teach documentary filmmaking. Grace was invited by Panasonic LUMIX as one of the emerging creators to direct and perform in the short film “Why do we create stories” for LUMIX GH6 global campaign.
Grace’s previous films include the short documentary A BOHEMIAN IN CHINA (2014), A TEMPORARY HOME (2015), and LOST WITH DREAM (2016), starring Jingting Bai. And her fiction short films STILL HOME (2017), BROKEN FLOWERS (2019), and SILENT STORM (2021) have been screened at numerous film festivals, in and out of China and won awards. Grace’s films provide an insightful and powerful view into the layered and often conflicting facts of characters and society. Her previous work are related to contemporary developing society, coming-of-age stories, human rights, feminism and cross-culture. Combining a fresh visual style with dynamic characters, Grace produces work that is moving and eye-opening. Her first feature film script, THE DAYS AWAY FROM HOME has participated in THE ONE women international film festival Lab in 2019.

An ordinary farming family lives a simple life in a quiet and remote mountain village in the south China. A lonely boy brought his cattle to chill on their way to take shower in the river in an afternoon. Everything seems calm and peace in this village while hidden crisis is spreading…
It’s a 10-min fiction short film with no dialogue, The film poetically raises exploratory and ecological questions about the relationship between human and animals. It also makes a personal bold guess about the reason triggers the global pandemic.

10 year old Duo Er is reluctant to attend her violin lessons. Her mother pushes her to continue, but Duo Er carries a secret she cannot share.
Data from the Supreme People's Court (SPC) showed that 10,782 child sexual assault cases were heard by courts all of China from 2013 to 2016. It means at least seven children were harmed every day on average. The story of Broken Flowers is based on real social issue. I hope it could help to raise the awareness for the audience to care the safety of children.
