得不到的美
关关雎鸠, 在河之洲, 窈窕淑女, 君子好逑。
What amazes me about this poem is its relevance to modern romance. Though written thousands of years ago in Zhou dynasty, China, it speaks to today’s unrequited adoration.
This poem praises and magnifies the imperfection and un-togetherness of romance. Its beauty lies in the one-way love and the struggle to express and possess.
The core of this film lies in exploring the ever-unfolding distance, both physically and psychologically, between the two individuals.
This distance may be created by difference in age, socioeconomic status, career paths, dreams and aspirations, etc.
New York City, where thousands of missed opportunities take place in a day, is the perfect modern vessel of this cinematic adaptation. In a way, I want to bring the idea of constriction in eastern roots to the hectic dating landscape of NYC.
